Guided Group Rides Along the Vidzeme Coast
Discover the joy of cycling with experienced instructors and fellow riders along Latvia's most scenic coastal routes. Flat, safe, and designed specifically for older adults who want to stay active.
Why Join a Guided Group Ride?
Group rides aren't just exercise — they're a chance to connect with people who share your interests while exploring beautiful coastline. You'll get professional guidance, ride at your own pace, and discover routes you might not find alone.
We've organized hundreds of rides along the Vidzeme coast since 2018. Our guides know every turn, every rest spot, and how to keep things fun for riders of all abilities. Most participants tell us the social aspect matters as much as the cycling itself.
What to Expect on Your First Ride
The first thing riders notice? It's relaxed. You're not competing or racing anyone. The pace tops out around 12-15 km/h, which gives everyone time to chat, take in the scenery, and actually enjoy themselves.
Rides typically run 2.5 to 3 hours including a 20-minute break halfway through. We stop at a café or scenic viewpoint where you can grab water, snacks, or just sit and rest. The whole thing is structured but never rigid — if someone needs to slow down or skip a section, that's completely fine.
Our guides stay with the group the entire time. They're trained to spot mechanical issues before they become problems, know the safest routes, and actually care that you have a good experience. Most have been cycling with seniors for 8-12 years.
Important: Safety & Health Considerations
Group rides are designed for active older adults, but cycling does involve physical exertion. If you have heart conditions, joint problems, or other health concerns, talk with your doctor before joining. Our guides can suggest easier routes or modifications, but we're not medical professionals. You know your body best — listen to it and take breaks whenever you need them.
The Routes We Ride
The Vidzeme coast has some of Latvia's flattest, smoothest cycling paths. That's the whole point — no steep hills, no rough gravel, just easy pedaling and nice views. We run four main routes that change based on the season and rider interest.
The Seaside Loop (18 km) takes you from Saulkrasti toward the beaches at Ķemeri. You'll pass fishing villages, small beaches, and pine forests. It's our most popular route for newer riders.
The Pines Route (22 km) stays slightly inland through protected forest areas. It's quieter, shadier, and perfect for hot days. The air smells like pine, and you'll see wildlife if you're lucky.
Both routes have multiple exit points, so if you need to turn back early, you're never far from town.
Practical Things You Should Know
Bikes: You can bring your own or rent from our partner shops in Saulkrasti. Rentals are around €12 per day. E-bikes are available too if you want extra assistance climbing any gentle slopes.
When we ride: Spring through fall, Tuesday and Saturday mornings starting at 9 AM. Summer we add Wednesday evening rides at 6 PM when it stays light longer. Winter rides are less frequent but don't stop entirely.
What to bring: Water bottle (we provide water at rest stops), sunscreen, and a light jacket. The coast can be windy. Bring snacks if you want — we always have people sharing homemade pastries at the halfway break.
Fitness level: We genuinely don't care where you're starting from. You'll ride with people who haven't cycled in 20 years and people who ride every week. The group stays together.
What Riders Actually Say
"I wasn't fit when I started. Three months of Tuesday rides and I'm stronger than I've been in years. But honestly, the friends I've made matter more than the fitness part."
"My daughter was worried I'd get bored in retirement. Now I'm the one telling her I can't do lunch because I've got my Wednesday ride. The guides make all the difference — they're patient and actually know what they're doing."
"I've got arthritis and thought cycling would hurt. Turns out it actually helps if you do it right. Our guide Andris explained the positioning, and now I ride without pain most days. That's life-changing at my age."
